Sgian Dubh and matching Sgian Brew from Glen Urquhart Antler
We crafted this Sgian Dubh and matching Sgian Brew for a wedding last month. Craig used his Sgian Dubh to cut his wedding cake, whilst the Sgian Brew was for his brother. The pair were made from a piece of … Continue reading

Antler, Bog Oak and Damascus Sgian Dubh
We crafted this Sgian Dubh for Chad from California using local Stag Horn, 4200 year old Bog Oak from the Culloden area, a Damascus steel blade and a leather sheath. He kindly emailed when it arrived;
Hi Rab! My sgian dubh arrived safely in California today! I’m very happy with it. Beautiful work, pictures don’t do it justice! She’s a welcome addition to my knife collection!
Many thanks! Chad Continue reading
Stag Horn Handle Sgian Dubh
Here’s a Sgian Dubh I made using a piece of stag horn (antler) we were given by our local gamekeeper. The end caps are Ebony and the blade is Sheffield made in 420 Stainless Steel. Jim, from California, who commissioned it has kindly allowed us to publish the email he sent when he received it;
“My Sgian Dubh arrived today Saturday, and I am delighted! I have to admit that the craftsmanship is even better than I expected.
The handle looks as though it belongs to the blade. A perfect feel in my hand. Thank you again Rab, Jim” Continue reading
Antler Sgian Dubh with Fife Red Jasper Pommel Stud and Damascus Blade
I made this Sgian Dubh for Bruce McClure who’s going to a wedding this weekend. The handle is from local stag horn and oak, and has a small piece Fife Red Jasper set into a silver stud to finish it off. This is the first time I’ve used this fitting style to combine stone and antler.
And here’s Bruce’s comments when it arrived:
“Excellent craftsmanship and beauty. Extremely happy with my sgian dubh”
